Live the Scrum framework in the challenging world of polar salvage

Your gear is packed, the hatches are battened, now it's down to your team to find the HMS Terror, Franklin's ill-fated last command. You'll have to use all your Scrum skills to balance the salvage operation with your secondary commission to carry out important scientific research in the area and return to port before the ice pack sets in.

Description

Who is this course for

This business game is ideal for teams who are about to implement Scrum or have already and would like to get more familiar with the finer points. No development knowledge is necessary and for maximum effect a good mix of developers, potential Product Owners & budding ScrumMasters should attend.

Purpose of the course

Raise the Terror Business Game places delegates in the role of a Scrum team tasked with finding and retrieving the HMS Terror, while mapping as much of the Arctic Ocean as possible. Throughout the day the team will get first-hand experience of Scrum ceremonies and artefacts and, most importantly, implement a series of three Sprints. Critically, all of these activities will be carried out under the supervision of one of our skilled and Scrum trained facilitators.

You will learn how to

Write effective User Stories
Estimate features using Planning Poker®
Build & groom Product Backlogs
Plan Sprints using Sprint Backlogs
Hold Daily Scrums
Execute Sprints

Prerequisites

A desire to learn more about the Scrum framework.

Benefits for you as an individual

Individuals will learn the importance of Scrum roles, ceremonies and artefacts in an engaging, hands-on way. By the end of the simulation individuals should feel confident in their ability to run projects in a Scrum-aligned manner.

Benefits for your organisation

Teams returning from the simulation will be able to dive into Scrum at the deep-end having practised their skills in a controlled environment. They will understand what value means to the business, and particularly how rapidly releasing features to customers ensures that this is maximised. Vitally, being a business game, Raise the Terror will help to bridge the gap between knowing Scrum and living Scrum.
