New Axelos Recertification Guidance – Important Information for Candidates
In January 2023 PeopleCert revised the way that re certification works across their Axelos portfolio.
Quanta’s Operations Director, Chris Jones Guides you through the changes.
From January 2023 PeopleCert changed the way that the Axelos qualifications expired and also renewed. In addition to this they widened, which certifications expire to include Foundation level qualifications and also the ITIL4® suite of courses.
But do not panic as they have also made it easier and simpler to re-certify and there are now 3 ways you can do it.
So what exactly has changed?
Previously Practitioner level qualifications expired after 3 years and to renew you had to retake the Practitioner level qualification.
Now all Axelos certifications will expire after 3 years not just Practitioner Level, so this includes Foundation level courses and ITIL4® .
Does this mean I will just need to retake loads of exams?!
No, as along side this they have introduced 3 ways you can now recertify:
1. Retake the exam (the same one as is expiring)
Retake the original exam before the renewal date.
A point worth noting on this- Combined exams:
If PRINCE2® Foundation and Practitioner was taken as part of a combined course, BOTH certifications now expire. To renew using this option, candidates ONLY need to retake the Practitioner to renew both certifications.
2. Take a different exam
You can attain recertification by completing an examination within the same product suite.
Eligible examinations:
- ITIL® 4 Product Suite: All ITIL® 4 certifications
- Project, Programme & Portfolio Management Product Suite: PRINCE2®, PRINCE2® Agile, MoR® , MSP® , MoV® , MoP® , P30®
- RESILIA® Product Suite: All RESILIA® certifications
- AgileSHIFT® Product Suite: All AgileSHIFT® certifications
Upon successful certification of ANY of the above, ALL certifications then take on this new re certification date.
3. Collect and log CPD points
Learners will be able to choose to renew their certification(s) through collecting and logging CPD points.
Current MyAxelos subscribers can continue to log their CPD points, as before.
more details can be found on the PeopleCert website
If I choose not to renew will I be removed from the Successful Candidate Register?
No, candidates that choose not to renew their certification within 3 years- of the award date will still be included on the Successful Candidates Register (SCR) but a note will be added to their record to indicate that their certification is not aligned with current certification requirements.
My certification has expired what do I do?!
You can simply leave it expired and will show on the Successful Candidates Register (SCR) as such or you can renew your certification. Even if your certification has expired when you gain the new certification the new expiry date will 3 years from that date.
Your renew-by-date can be viewed on your PeopleCert account.
As ITIL4® qualifications now expire, will ITIL® 3 qualifications expire?
No, it will not apply retrospectively for ITIL® 3
